Answer : Most communities utilize transfer stations in order to centralize trash collection. After the trash is collected at the transfer station it is trucked to regional landfills. The waste materials only remain in these facilities for a short period of time.

However, there are times when the waste material will remain for a longer period of time. This is when most odors are generated, especially during the warm weather months.

7) How do I treat transfer station odors?
Answer : Most transfer station use an odor system consisting of a matrix of nozzles that are mounted to the ceiling. The nozzles are pressurized with either a high- pressure pump or a low- pressure pump. The high -pressure pump systems generate an extremely fine fog or mist that envelope the odorous air. The low -pressure systems are similar, but the droplets are coarser and the product usage is increased. Nozzles are also positioned around the access doors and above the compactors and or loading pits. One advantage to these odor control systems is the reduction of airborne dust due to the liquid droplets contacting the dust particles.
